Catalogue matching
What is catalogue matching?
Catalogue matching is the step that links each line on a customer's order to the exact product in the supplier's catalogue, whatever description or code the customer used. Customers write 'Cola 500 12s', use their own product codes or describe items loosely.
Catalogue matching resolves each line to one SKU, with a confidence score, so the sales order can be created with the right product, unit and price. Good matching also remembers how each customer describes each product.
Why it matters
Customer descriptions rarely match the catalogue exactly. When matching is done by hand, it depends on the knowledge of whoever is on shift, and ambiguous lines can be resolved differently on different days.
How Weeva handles it
Weeva uses a 13-step matching algorithm that combines deterministic and statistical methods with frontier LLMs and reasoning models to match the customer's product description to the exact product code. Lines it is unsure of are flagged for confirmation. Weeva's Match Memory learns how each customer has ordered before and remembers the manual amendments the team has made, per customer.
